A Doll's House
Author: Ibsen, Henrik
A Doll’s House questions the suppressed role of women in society. It is a three act play about a seemingly typical housewife (Nora Helmer), who becomes disillusioned and dissatisfied with her condescending husband (Torvald Helmer). The play begins where Nora discreetly tells Mrs. Linde that several years ago, when Torvald was very ill, she forged her dead father’s signature in order to illegally obtain a loan. Since then, she has been paying back the loan in secret. She has never told her husband because she knows it would upset him.
