Alexandre is one of the short stories written by Henri Rene Albert Guy de Maupassant (5 August 1850-6 July 1898). This story is involving three personalities. First, there is Joseph Maramballe, a retired ex-captain of infantry who was bitter with his fate in the military. He started out successfully as he was recipient of Legion of Honor award at the very young age of twenty; but, he was not able to get pass the rank of captain until he retired from military service. Then, there is Madame Maramballe, who is considered a model domestic and who is the wife of Joseph. She's wheelchair bound. And, finally, there is Alexander. He is the servant of the Maramballe couple. Despite his education, he has been serving the couple for thirty years, and wheeling the mistress about through the town in the last six years. In the story, Alexandre confessed to the mistress that she's the reason why Alexander is a devoted and affectionate servant (to her) and deferential to Joseph.
